What is "mom-like?"

I was in negotiated rulemaking up at the Department for the past two weeks. When I was getting ready to go home Thursday evening, I pulled off my heels and slipped on my Metro shoes - canvas Vans slip-ons, black with white skulls.

One of the other women there said "Intersting shoes." I told her my son picked them out for me.

"You have kids?"

"Yeah, a 2 year old boy and an almost-6-month-old girl."

She kind of raised her eyebrows and replied, "Those aren't very mom-like, huh?"

Mom-like? Mom-like??? What the hell does THAT mean? Because I'm a mom I have to wear Dr. Scholls orthopedic shoes? I can't wear cool shoes? Before I was a mom I had a life and a style... I went out and drank beer and danced and hung out with friends... I wore tight jeans and spent too much money trying to find the perfect red lipstick... if I want to wear cool skater shoes because they harken back to my younger days and they make my kid happy (plus they are comfortable)... I will.

I answered her with "I guess it depends on what kind of mom you are like."

He is SO my boy.

A real conversation I had with George when I picked the kids up from day care the other day:

G: Mama, turn on music please.

{I turn on the radio. "We Were Only Freshmen" by The Freshmen is playing}

G: No mama, don't like it. Different song.

{I change the channel. "Love Story" by Taylor Swift starts playing}

G: No mama, not this one. Different song please.

{I change it again, to 98 Rock. Rage Against the Machine's "Renegades of Funk" is on.}

G: This one mama. Make it loud!

When I looked back after turning it up, he was shaking his little fist in the air and head banging in time to the music.

I love my boy!

Sitting is hard work

Snow Day!!

It snowed today! ALOT! All the schools were closed so day care closed, so I stayed home with the kids. When Tom came home, we went outside to dig out my car and play.

Here's the boy in his snowpants and boots - he was VERY happy to get to wear them.

He wasn't quite as sure about the snow when he got out in it.

Clara wanted to make snow angels, but she couldn't move very well in her snowsuit.

George is never one to pass up a photo op.

Afterwards we had hot chocolate - YUM!

Enough already!!

I am never going to catch up on here, so let's just try to start from today and move forward, ok? And yes, I know that means a few things will be missing - like the girl's birth story, George's 2nd birthday... but if I start from today, who knows... maybe this thing will actually work!!
